What is the RNZSPCA

The Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Incorporated is a charitable organisation which, through its district branches and Member Societies, helps animals and their owners.


Today there are 54 local branches or Member Societies throughout the country, amalgamated as the natiional organisation known as the RNZSPCA. Each of the 54 branches or affiliates runs its own local affairs and handles its own finances, overseen by a voluntary committee.� Each branch has at least one warranted inspector to investigate cruelty complaints and enforce the Animals Protection Act.� Most staff and workers are unpaid.


Funding


The RNZSPCA is a charity.� It does not get any money from the government.� The RNZSPCA depends on its own fundraising and on income from donations, legacies and bequests.

THE RNZSPCA NATIONAL OFFICE:

Co-ordinates activities of 54 districts
Trains inspectors nationwide
Arranges national education, promotions & fundraising
Represents RNZSPCA on government bodies
Handles major prosecutions
Lobbies government on animal welfare laws
Liaises with international Animal welfare organisations

RNZSPCA LOCAL BRANCHES & MEMBER SOCIETIES:

Investigate and deal with complaints of cruelty and neglect
Prosecute where necessary
Give sanctuary to animals in distress
Re-home suitable animals
Make sure animals that can't be kept alive are humanely put down
Help with public education
Promote responsible pet ownership
